I did it.  It's done.  The first draft of my manuscript What Every Mental Health Professional Needs to Know about Sex is completed.

Many psychotherapists receive little or not training in sex therapy in their graduate programs.  They don't have the knowledge, or the confidence, to treat clients' sexual concerns.  Many people come to my practice feeling ashamed because they brought a sexual problem to the attention of a therapist who told them "I don't 'do' sex."  No client should ever hear those words.  Every therapist should be able to at least listen, non-judgmentally, to a client's sexual problems.  If the problem is too complex, then they can say so honestly and refer.

The book begins with a section to help the therpaist get comfortable with the topic of sex.  This is followed by information on how to assess and treat common and uncommon sexual problems, from how to help female clients who want to experience orgasm, to educating therapists about issues associated with all kinds of medical illnesses, and addressing sexuality as we age.  I also have a chapter about problematic pornography viewing behavior (PVB) and alt sex.

The book will come back to me for editing and I believe it will be published in late spring or fall.  Stay tuned for details!
